Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What about security? How do you prevent unauthorized access to my website?
GroveSite websites are access controlled. You determine what (if any) pages can be seen before a person has to login. People login to GroveSite using their email address and a password. Until you enroll a person in your site, they have no access to protected content. Once they login, they see only the pages you designated as appropriate for their role. For organizations that require higher levels of security, we offer SSL encryption for all communication to/from your websites. This additional layer of security ensures that nobody can intercept login information or site content. As with any security system, it is critical you and your enrolled parties do not share IDs and passwords. Most security breaches start with human error and escalate from there.

Why do I need a website for projects?
Traditionally, websites have not been a good way to manage projects, because project information changes rapidly and traditional websites are difficult to update. But GroveSite is an ideal way to communicate rapidly changing information to a dispersed group. It's so affordable, you can use a GroveSite website to manage short-lived groups - project teams, committees, task forces, event planners. When the project is complete, just turn off the site.

What are my options for the site URL?
GroveSite websites are hosted on our server. The standard name of this server is http://secure.grovesite.com. Following the server name are short names identifying customer organizations and sites. For example

  • https://secure.grovesite.com/execed

In the first case, the organization is "sunconsult" and the site is "projectxyz". In the second case, the organization is "execed" and its default site will be shown.

Once the first page of the site is displayed, GroveSite switches all URLs to match a standard format like

There are two other options for URLs for your site. First, you can request a custom prefix on the GroveSite domain such as

This will display the default site for Sun Consulting.
The other option is to point a machine name from your organization's domain at our GroveSite servers such as

GroveSite can help you inquire with your IT staff about the feasibility of this option.

Note that customers who take advantage of GroveSite's SSL encryption use a server named https://secure.grovesite.com.

I already have a website. Why should I use GroveSite?
Traditional websites are static. If you want to change the information on them, you have to burden your webmaster (or outsource one!) to make a change. It's expensive and timeconsuming. GroveSite lets you add or change information anytime, instantly, with no specialized technical expertise.

Instead, enrich your existing website with GroveSite! Add web pages that you can update yourself. Add a 'for members only' section. Add collaborative pages, where members can respond to questions and network among themselves.
