Build a Relational Database

GroveSite supports two types of relationships between tables.

  1. Parent-Child

A data table can be linked to another data table in a parent-child relationship. A parent record can have many child records, creating a one-to-many relationship. For example, a single Order (parent) can have many Order Items (children) linked to it.

  2. Lookup Table

Within a data table, a field can be defined as a 'Lookup Relation' field. It is linked to another table (often referred to as a Lookup Table) and field, which serve as a source of possible values for the Lookup Relation field. For example, a Technology Assets database may have a Lookup Relation field for Equipment Category. It is linked to a separate database table which contains the company's valid Equipment Categories and related descriptions.
