Database Lock and Scroll

We have listened to our customers' requests in order to make our online relational database software both powerful and user friendly. Previously, as you scrolled down through a page of database records, the column headings would disappear from the top of your screen. It was frustrating to have to return to the top of the page to see column headings.

GroveSite's database Lock and Scroll feature will enhance your experience by locking the column headers at the top of the web page while you scroll through the database records.

The Lock and Scroll feature is available (1) on your web page in Expanded, Summary and Custom Views, and (2) in the database [Quick Edit].

Example 1: DB Page View

Locked Column Headers at the top of your database page.

Note that column widths are all the same.

Note the new vertical scroll bar (at the right) and the new horizontal scroll bar (at bottom).

Example 2: Quick Edit

Note that column widths are all the same.

Note the new vertical scroll bar (at the right) and the new horizontal scroll bar (at bottom).

As before, you can 'release' the locked column header mode by UNchecking the checkbox.

Tips to Try

Want to turn Lock and Scroll Off?

If you want to turn if off, just click the check box, and the check mark will disappear and your screen will return to normal.

Does your screen seem smaller?

When you have the Lock Column Headers checked your screen may seem to be smaller, or to have extra unused space at the far right of your screen. In order to maximize your screen space, an Administrator from your site must:

Click on the link Administration on your navigation tool bar at top of your screen.

Then click Manage Site Style, Background and Colors Under Site Administration Options on the left hand side of the screen.

Scroll down to the bottom of the form and check / reset these three fields:

  • Set overall site width to 100%
  • Set navigation width to 18%
  • Un-check the expand box

Are you missing the filter arrow that is normally on the right side of the column header?

Lock and Scroll makes each column the same width. This means that if you have a long column header label, you may not see the filter arrow at the top of the column. To get your column label to take less space, simply put a space between the words in your label so the column label can 'wrap'. An 'Organization Administrator' will need to use the Database Editor to make that change.

To correct this click on Org Admin

Click on Manage Database

On the right side of the screen click [edit] for the table where the field label needs to be changed.

Under Field Options put a space in the field header in the label section and this will wrap your text.
